Walch Optics is located at 197 Harrington Street, opposite St Mary’s College near the corner of Patrick street. We are sharing the premises with Full Gamut, Master Printers. Our repair workshop has more space and we have a showroom for products we sell. Our opening hours will be 9:00am to 1:00pm Monday to Friday, and there is free parking available at the front of the premises for customers.
We specialise in repairs for medical, survey and photographic equipment.
Walch Optics also develops 35mm film and 120 film and also some other formats. We process colour film every day on site here in Hobart. We also process true black and White film by hand, about once per week. We have in stock a pretty large selection of film for sale. Apparently colour film is a bit hard to come by at the moment, but we have plenty in stock here in Hobart. We can also help you with problems to do with your film camera, we are happy to take the time to help troubleshoot and help you get the most out of your camera.
As we are a fairly diverse business this is a reminder of what we offer:
- Repairs – In our on site workshop we repair medical equipment, cameras including image sensor clean and surveying equipment. We are factory approved for calibrations of most brand laser levels and other surveying equipment.
- Microscopes and accessories – We are service agents for Leica Microsystems and Biosystems and we also have a range of student / beginner microscopes which still have good image quality.
- Surveying equipment and construction measuring equipment – GPS, theodolites, laser and dumpy levels, laser distance meters, and more.
- Photographic equipment sales – We will no longer keep display stock but are happy to take orders for new equipment
- Second hand cameras and lenses – We will continue to buy your gear and sell a range of photographic equipment second hand, with several months’ warranty.
- Binoculars, spotting scopes, magnifiers and other optics – We will have a good range in our new showroom to test and compare.
- Data recovery and image restoration, conversion of old home movie to digital etc.
- Insurance reports
- Film Processing: Colour and black & white all now done on site.
- The list goes on!
