Q: Are you a real shop?
A: Yes , we are a real camera shop, with a storefront in Hobart CBD. We have been in business for over 28 years, and have sales staff who know their stuff.
Q: Opening Hours?
A: We are open Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm
Q: Is the item I want to buy really in stock?
A: We try to be up to date and truthful with our “stock status”. We are a real shop with a real storeroom of cameras and lenses, binoculars etc. Sometimes we might get caught out and not note that we have run out of something, but we try to keep our “stock status” correct. If you are concerned, call or email before you place the order and we will send you a photo of one of us holding your purchase, ready to pack and send to you!
Q: Does your price include GST?
A: Yes, just like if you were purchasing over the counter in our shop, our price includes GST. We provide a Tax Invoice with all sales. There is no extra duty or other hidden charges.
Q: Is Delivery guaranteed?
A: We dispatch the same day we receive payment. We use track and trace, so we can see where your parcel is. We insure all our deliveries at no extra charge to you.
Q: Are my details secure, and what about privacy?
A: We use the latest encrypted secure system for storing customer orders. We respect your privacy and fully comply with Australian privacy law. In particular, we are not even slightly interested in selling your information to third parties.
Q: Why don’t you accept Paypal or even credit card as payment?
A: Although we accept credit cards and Eftpos in the shop, there is a fraud risk to us for phone and internet sales, even with Paypal. We simply can’t afford to be defrauded, so at the moment direct deposit and cheque are the only online payment options.
Q: What warranty do you offer?
A: We only source our stock through the official authorised importer. Eg Canon Australia, Nikon Australia, CR Kennedy for Pentax and Sigma, etc. This means we can provide a real Australian warranty to you. Call us if you have a warranty issue and we can help. Also, since we are a registered Australian business, you are covered by the new consumer protection laws. “Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. Where a failure does not amount to a major failure, Walch Optics is entitled to choose between providing you with a repair, replacement or refund.”
Q: Can Canon CPS members register their purchases from us?
A: Yes, we are an authorised Canon CPS (Canon Professional Services) dealer, so our Pro customers are covered.
Q: I can’t find something on the website, can you give me a quote?
A: Yes of course. We are slowly adding products to our site, but we have in stock a whole shop worth of accessories and equipment from Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Ricoh, Lowepro, Manfrotto, Sirui, Think Tank, Bushnell, Leica, Gerber, Swarovski, Steiner, Optex, Vanguard, Bowens, Elinchrom, Pocketwizard, Pelican, Velbon, Sandisk, Lexar, Ilford…
Q: I am having trouble using my camera
A: Give us a call or email and we will try to help. We have the advantage of having one of everything on display to play with, so we can often sort out things over the phone. Any new camera takes a bit of time to get used to, so don’t be shy to call. We are experts remember!
Q: I have accidently damaged my camera
A: We have a repair workshop on site so we can access your camera for repair. Often the repair price is cheaper than you might think.
Q: I accidently spilt red wine on my camera, then dropped it in a salt water rock pool before reversing over it with my Panzerkampfwagen
A: We can sell you a new camera at a good price, and take your dead camera for recycling.
Q: I have more questions
A: We are happy to help. Give us a call or email and test our knowledge!
